Hello!

Hello! My name is Aidan Van Burger, and I am a 22-year-old game sound designer and audio programmer from Howell, NJ. I recently graduated magna cum laude from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a BS in Game Design & Development. I have experience in game audio tools such as Audiokinetic Wwise and Reaper, as well as implementation in Game Development engines such as Unreal and Unity. I am looking to gain experience working in a team of people with diverse skills and backgrounds in order to improve my own skills and craft great experiences.

Projects

Changeling VR Internship - May 2023-August 2023 "Changeling is a VR mystery, first-person 3D platformer game built upon the idea of magical realism and a sense of unease and wonder. You play as Aurelia, a dream-walker who has the ability to see through the eyes of anyone she touches."

As a sound designer on this project, I was responsible for recording/editing/mixing sound effects, implementing sounds and music in the Unreal Engine, and attending multiple daily standup meetings. I was also personally in charge of recording and editing voice acting sessions. Working on a team of over 80 people, I was able to gain experience working with both task management and version control on a large scale.

TRAUMATIC TOYBOX Academic Project - Jan-April 2024 "QUIET! Stealthily escape the (not-so) scary beasts. Murderous toys are out for blood (stuffing)! You have two goals: survive and escape. Navigate your way out of this traumatizing toy box and make your way to freedom."

TRAUMATIC TOYBOX is a first-person survival horror game created in the Unity engine. Working within a team of six, my primary responsibilities on this project include sound design/music, 3D/2D asset creation, UI/audio programming, and QA/bugfixing. Being largely in control of the project's aesthetics and atmosphere has been both a challenging and rewarding endeavor, and I am very excited to continue working on it.

Wizard Simulator 2023 Personal Project - December 2022-Ongoing Wizard Sim '23 is a 3D adventure game made in Unreal Engine 5, and my current personal project. The game focuses on a unique mouse-based spellcasting mechanic and allows the player to engage in puzzles and combat that require creative use of their spells. I have a demo availiable, and intend to update this with each newer build as the game expands. Download Demo

Wizard Simulator 2021 Academic Project - December 2021 Wizard Sim '21 is a 2D browser-based game in which you control a wizard and fight ghouls to retrieve your wizard's orb. This game was made using Javascript and the PIXIjs libraries. I created all of the code, art, music, sounds and other assets, except for the fonts. Being that PIXI does not have alot of the preexisting helpers that game engines may have, it was a fun challenge to implement collision, input, state systems, etc. by myself. Play Game

Tower of Lumeth Academic Project - October 2022 "Tower of Lumeth" is a short but challenging puzzle game that was developed in a sprint of less than five weeks. The player uses spells to move boxes onto targets, and has to work around spell limits, obstacles, and maze-like geometry. I designed and implemented the game's UI, created/implemented all of the game's music and sounds, designed multiple levels, and helped develop the level progression system and some general game logic. I worked in Unity C#, Photoshop, and StudioOne to develop this project. Download Game
